Not sure why this was called cancellation factor, but I suppose it's because you could cancel out common factors during your conversion?

1) You have 10 grams, in one pound,

10 Grams
--------------
1 Pound

2) But we need it in ounces - so convert it over to ounces

10 Grams - - - 10 Grams
-------------- = ----------------
1 Pound - - - - 16 Ounces

3) Do some math - Divide the numerator by the denominator.

10 ÷ 16 = 0.625

4) Since we were dealing in Grams, and the answer is less than one Gram, we will report our answer in mg.

0.625 Grams = 625 mg

10g = 10,000mg

1 lb = 16 oz.

Divide 10,000 by 16 = 625mg/oz.
