Rx: Albuterol 2mg/5mL
Disp: 120 mL
Sig: 1.5 tsp po bid
Based on the dosage directions, how much of the drug will the patient receive daily ?
A. 15mg
B. 6mg
C. 12mg
D. 3mg

Use Proportion Math

1) Convert tsp to mL

1 tsp = 5mL

2)

So, each dosage is 7.5mL
And, BID (2x a day) = 15mL

3)

Equate with your solution

2mg - - - X
----- = ------
5mL - - 15mL

How did you get 7.5

Convert 1.5 tsp to ml

1 tsp = 5 ml
.5 tsp = 2.5 ml
So (all in all) 7.5 ml

daily dose

per sig: 1.5 tsp po bid
trans: take 1.5 tsp by mouth twice a day.
1.5 *2 = 3 tsp a day
1 tsp = 5 ml
5 ml * 3 = 15 ml

Rx: Albuterol 2 mg/5ml
2mg*3 = 6mg

answer is 6mg a day

Ann, once you set up the math how did you get X?

2mg of medication in each tsp or 5cc of water so 1 1/2 tsp would be 3cc. Bid would = 6mg of medication qd.

Easy as this :
1.5 tsp means 7.5 ml * 2 = 15 ml , 2 mg in 5 ml so total = 6 mg
